How much weight can an adult bunk bed hold?
Beds sold for adults are rated from 400 to 2,000 lbs per bunk among the 10 we checked. The three Francis Lofts & Bunks beds are highest at 2,000 lbs per sleeping platform; most wood beds sit at 400 or 800 lbs.
What to look for
- Per bunk, not total. Most makers here rate each sleeping surface separately. Big Sky Bunks lists "750 lbs" without saying which, so ask before you buy.
- The upgrade is often the rating. Bunk Beds for Adults sells 400 lbs per bunk as standard and 800 lbs with a slat upgrade that uses 14 slats instead of 7 (their guide). The $799 price is for the 400-lb version.
- Kids' beds can carry adult numbers. The Max & Lily queen over queen holds 400 lbs per bunk (confirmed on both the maker page and Target), but Max & Lily sells it as a kids' bed.
- A rating is a tested load, not a jump test. Makers say what their bed held in their own testing. None of the pages we read say how that test was done.
